Land Register counties and operational dates

A list of the 34 counties of Scotland, as used in RoS.

RoS uses the pre-1974 county boundaries, ignoring the creation of the 12 Scottish regions in 1974. Note that there are variations between modern regional boundaries and the county boundaries used in RoS. (For example, parts of Aberdeen are in the county of Kincardine.) If you are in any doubt what registration county a particular town is in, refer to the page Localities and Post Towns in Scotland.

From the designated day (8th December 2014), it has become possible for RoS to register the seabed of the territorial sea adjacent to Scotland in the new county, "SEA".

Registers of Scotland (RoS) seeks to ensure that the information published in the 2012 Act Registration Manual is up to date and accurate but it may be amended from time to time.
The Manual is an internal document intended for RoS staff only. The information in the Manual does not constitute legal or professional advice and RoS cannot accept any liability for actions arising from its use.
