2.3 Lock-up Garages

It is inappropriate to use the gazetteer as there will not be an entry within it for each individual garage. Generally, the description of the property should be included in the Prefix field.

Where Street names, Localities and Towns are to be included, the relevant guidelines for these fields should be followed. As areas of ground are non-addressable, the use of a postcode is inappropriate.

When manually entering an address that cannot be found in the address gazetteer, particular care should be taken to ensure that the post town and/or locality is entered in the correct field. Please check against the approved list of Localities and Post Towns in Scotland.

One exception to the rule that no house number should be entered in the prefix field is to be found in East Kilbride where precise postal descriptions are given in the deeds for lock-up garages - see example 2.3.2
