The monuments known as Rosslyn Chapel, ecclesiastical and related remains, Roslin comprises the remains, largely archaeological, of the buildings associated with the collegiate church of Rosslyn. The upstanding remains include the western buttresses of the church of St. Matthew (which Rosslyn Chapel replaced) and the front wall of several domestic buildings on the road leading to Rosslyn Castle, now incorporated into into a boundary wall. In additions the area which is not presently in ecclesiastical use lying beneath the Chapel itself and its sacristy is included in this scheduling; this includes burial vaults ... The scheduling also includes substantial areas of what is now open ground. Excluded from the area within the area thus circumscribed are the Chapel itself and its sacristy, which as parts of a working church are excluded by statute (but not the burial vaults, chambers and ground lying below the Chapel and sacristy), the buildings to the north of the Chapel that face onto Chapel Loan and those plots within the scheduled section of the cemetery where burial rights still exist. The monument, which lies in the Parish of Lasswade and the county of Midlothian is shown outlined red on the plan annexed and executed as relative hereto and which forms part of the subjects described in I Feu Disposition..., is hereby included in the Schedule of Monuments appearing to the Secretary of State for Scotland to be of national importance compiled and maintained by him under section 1(1) of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979.
