PIP 3/2001 Rogue Titles on the Index Map

Plans Information Paper 3/2001: "Rogue Titles" on the Index Map

Occasionally an Index Map search will reveal titles or reports with a different county prefix than the county being searched against. More often than not it will be a county at the other end of the country from that being searched against.

IT and Plans Services have been investigating these titles/reports to find out the cause.

After much investigation and discussion the following conclusions as to the cause of the rogue titles have been reached -

  • Misuse of the CLIPBOARD/Copying from the Index Layer functionalities
  • CASE TAKEON and VIEW being open at the same time when the user creates new drawing objects.

The latter conclusion is no longer an issue with the release of Drawing Tool Version 5.3.16 (See Plans Information Paper 1/2001 - Changes to the View and "SPL" Functionality in the DMS).

In respect of the CLIPBOARD/ Copying from the Index Layer functionalities users must be vigilant when using these options. Full instructions can be found in Multiple Clipboard Functionality - Section 13.6.24 and Copying from the Index Layer - Section 13.6.7.

It cannot be stressed enough that users must ensure that the items copied into the Title have come from the correct clipboard. If a user clicks on PASTE and nothing happens, and there is no error message stating there is nothing in the clipboard to copy, then you have to assume the system has copied something. The user must then display the clipboards to examine the active clipboard. The chances are the user has pasted in something from a Title that was being worked on earlier that day which could possibly be in another county.

Please ensure that any objects copied in error are deleted.

Handy Tip
If you are unsure if you have copied any items from else where into your title the following tip may help.

Using the SELECT LASSO option select the drawing objects (including any stamps) that form part of your Title - note the number of items selected.

Now using the SELECT ALL option note the number of items selected in the whole of your title layer.

If the layer number is higher, then you have extra items somewhere in the Title layer.

To rectify this using the SELECT LASSO function select all objects that should be included in your Title, COPY these items into the CLIPBOARD.

Now using the select all function select all the drawing objects in the your Title layer and click on DELETE.

PASTE in all items held on clipboard.
