Introduction

It is important that these indexing guidelines are adhered to. Having consistent data ensures In the public registers maintained by Registers of Scotland (RoS), such as the Land Register, there is a lot of very useful data relating to people and places. Ensuring that this data is captured, stored and used in a consistent manner is vitally important:

  • it means that the accuracy of
any searches is maintained. This
  • searches made in the Land Register can be maintained
  • it is necessary for all of our customers who rely on the quality of the
information that the Keeper provides. It is also important for the RoS business development team who provide reports for business purposes.RoS has adopted the Royal Mail's address point gazetteer as the standard for all address data held on our systems. Currently this is based on OS address point data. The importance of having a definitive address/places indexing format across all our registers not only increases user confidence but
  • data provided by the Keeper
  • it provides a level of consistency in the data to enable more efficient future database analysis of our records
.For ease of reference, the guidelines have been split into sections, as shown in the Table of Contents panel on the right hand side of this page
