Indexing People with Non-Scottish Addresses - Rest of the World

General Indexing Principles

When indexing foreign addresses the settler must ensure that all of the address information given in the deed is both included in the entry in the LRS and that it is all displayed in the same order as given in the deed.

Any postcode that does not comply with the UK format may be entered in the "Town" or the "County" field or in such a way that the entry in the LRS reflects the order of the information given in the deed.

The "Country" field must be completed for all non UK addresses using only the names available from the LRS picklist, no other information should be entered in this field. The country must be entered for all foreign addresses even if not specified in the deed. In most cases an internet search should enable confirmation of the required country any problems in identifying the appropriate country should be referred to the Land and Property Data Team.

Supported characters

Note that if you encounter foreign characters or diacritical marks (accents (e.g. " é "), çedile, ümlaut etc) added to any letters included in a person's name or address, please see Entering Accents and Foreign Characters in the LRS.
