2.4 Electricity Substations, Gas Governors and Water Treatment Works

It is inappropriate to use the gazetteer as there will not be an entry within it for the substation or gas governor. Generally, the description of the property should be included in the prefix field.

A style has been agreed with Scottish Water for indexing their properties (see example 2.4.3, below) - following this style makes the water treatment works searchable on ScotLIS.

Where street names, localities and towns are to be included, the relevant guidelines for these fields should be followed. As areas of ground are non-addressable, the use of a postcode is inappropriate.

When manually entering an address that cannot be found in the address gazetteer, particular care should be taken to ensure that the post town and/or locality is entered in the correct field. Please check against the approved list of Localities and Post Towns in Scotland.
