S5.4 Square Brackets

It may be necessary to introduce material into a Minute of a breakaway writ which is not contained in the writ in order to provide a link with the title and thus to supply information for the Index of Places.

e.g. Where a reference is given to a recorded writ containing indexable material which is essential for the Index of Places, but is not in the writ being drafted, the material is shown in square brackets, e.g. part of subjects [bounded by ?q?nLOW STREET?z].

This must be followed by a reference to the recorded writ as material cannot be introduced into a Minute in square brackets without the authority for the borrowing being shown, namely the reference to a writ, the Minute of which contains the indexable matter.

In case of descriptions by reference where the Minute of the writ referred to contains indexable matter in square brackets, it is permissible to borrow from these square brackets for the purpose of minuting the breakaway writ being drafted.
