LBTT Check

How to record the LBTT check in CMS

  • CMS automatically checks for LBTT on all relevant auto-created cases (e.g. Dispositions).
  • If CMS finds a match on the majority of the LBTT details then CMS will add the Tax Record number to the case details and you will not need to check the S43 service for yourself.
  • If it doesn’t find a match then CMS will designate it an INT type case even though there is an LRS application. The case will be assigned to the user on the LBTT Check screen for manual checking.
  • If you have a case at the LBTT Check screen, check the S43 service if appropriate and then select one of the 4 options.
    • The options will be:
      • Payment Found - If you select this option then you will be prompted to enter the Tax Record Number. Once you have submitted the number it will show on the Case Details.
      • Payment Not Found - If you select this option you will be prompted to reject the application. Follow the relevant rejections process.
      • Not Notifiable - If you select this option you are confirming that the case did not require LBTT to be paid.
      • Unable to Perform Check - Select this option if the S43 site is unavailable or you are unable to check for the Tax Record Number.
        • CMS will warn you not to proceed further and will put the case back to your My Assignments so that you can check again later or refer for rejection.
        • Continue onto the next case until you are able to perform the LBTT check.
    • If this was a case that failed the automated LBTT Check then once the option has been selected, the case will be routed to the appropriate workbasket.
      • You will not be expected to settle the case.
    • If it is an INT case with no LRS application details then select the appropriate option and continue to process the case.
      • If you enter a Tax Record number then, at the end of the intake stage, check that the LBTT box shows the correct details. It will default to Not Notifiable.
  • If you need to update an LBTT entry on an LR Case (e.g. if it has incorrectly defaulted to Not Notifiable) then you can use the "Perform LBTT Check" action from the Actions menu. This will give you the same 4 options above.
