S3.1.4 Titled Persons

The numerical designation of the holder of a title is not minuted, unless it is specifically required to differentiate between two holders of a title who are otherwise similarly named, e.g.

DISP. by Trustees of ?pNIALL ?nDIARMID?z, ?pNINTH DUKE OF ?gARGYLL?z – TO Trustees of ?pNIALL ?nDIARMID?z, ?pTENTH DUKE OF ?gARGYLL?z

It is now common practice to index both the personal name and the title, e.g.

DISP. by ?pGEORGE IAIN ?nMURRAY?z, ?pDUKE OF ?gATHOLL?z

The ?g is for gentry. The titleholder does not have to be designed as their title is unique but they must be designed if their title is not mentioned. If a designation appears it should be minuted.
