Can I use the same tint reference on separate groupings?

Yes, as these groupings form separate layers of the cadastral map, each grouping can be viewed separately when the cadastral map extracts are produced or displayed for the customer.

Each polygon is classified which helps to differentiate between them, and the visibility of references can be turned on and off. The text in the title sheet will refer to the reference on the ungrouped layer of the cadastral map, or on a particular grouping, which again helps to differentiate between them. Therefore, if you are running low on available plans references, the same tints can be used on different groupings. 



If I only have one or two burdens references, should these be on separate groupings?

No, provided that the extent of the subjects and the burdens references are clear on the ungrouped layer, then there is no requirement to use a grouping.

Burdens tints should sit on top of the ownership polygon if the ownership polygon has been tinted and narrated accordingly in the property section, or sit beneath the ownership polygon if the ownership polygon has been edged. This is a change from the previous style of mapping in the DMS where an ownership area would often be split into separately coloured polygons to reflect burdened & unburdened parts. This old style of mapping should no longer be used.


If I am using tinting method and need a burdens reference on top of the ownership polygon, and I am not using a grouping, do these have to be hatches on top of the ownership polygon?

No, tints can be used as they will sit on top of the ownership polygon and classified accordingly. If tints are used the property section description should reflect the tints used. Hatches should be avoided where possible for narrow polygons or very small areas due to display issues when the PDF plans are generated.


Is there any limit to the maximum number of references on the ungrouped layer before a grouping should be used?

No. References on the ungrouped layer should be clear and visible, and therefore so long as references are not from common deeds with multiple references per deed, which should be on a separate grouping, there is no restriction.


If I am re-mapping the subjects due to edging issues, can I change the mapping style from red edge to tinting method.

Yes, to assist with positive mapping of TPs, it would be preferable to map areas of land and larger titles tinting method. See Further Guidance page Updating Existing DMS Titles in the Plan Creator.


Can an ownership polygon be shown on a grouping?

Yes, because the groupings enable a layered cadastral map, they can be used for ownership if absolutely necessary, or for tenement, pend and multi-part plan scenarios described on the main Use of Groupings in the Plan Creator page. However, for the overwhelming majority of applications, only the primary 'ungrouped' layer will be required to show ownership polygons.


Can I map with overlapping polygons styled as edges?

No, edges must not sit on top of other edges. The title should be created using groupings following the guidance on the main Use of Groupings in the Plan Creator page. For complex titles and developments mapped originally in DMS, the Edge Stacking Tool can be utilised in certain scenarios.


What if I am unsure whether to use a grouping and how to do this?

You should read these FAQs and the guidance on the main Use of Groupings in the Plan Creator page in the first instance. If you are still unsure after doing this speak to your plans referral point or Plan Creator business lead.
